On September 15th, Bayern Munich could not secure the 3 points at home against a spirited Bayern Leverkusen side. Leverkusen’s Exequiel Palacios converted a penalty given in stoppage time to equalize the score at 2-2. That turned out to be the last goal in the match, as the two teams shared 1 point each from the draw.

Bayern Munich Still Hunting For The Top

Currently, Bayern Munich and Bayern Leverkusen both sit on the same 10 points. Leverkusen is ahead on the basis of goal difference, that too by just 1. As such, the hype before the match was extreme as a win for either side would have meant the first clear gap at the top of the table. The performances from the team lived up to the hype, to say the least.

Bayern Munich and Bayern Leverkusen were in a 1-1 deadlock till the 86th minute. It was Munich who found the back of the net at this late second through Leon Goretzka. He managed to tap in and finish after Mathys Tel, who had come on as a substitute, had done a brilliant job to create the change. After that, during stoppage time, Jonas Hofmann was brought down by Alphonso Davies. Palacios gave the shot his all as it clattered into the net.

Thomas Tuchel, the manager of Bayern Munich, said that his team had a good performance in the beginning. However, he admitted that Leverkusen was the better side afterward. He felt that it was a fair result. However, he explained that taking the lead so late into the game should mean three points, even if the correct result is a draw. Tuchel reiterated the failure of this team to be consistent and stable through the 90 minutes, as their attacks became hectic and shorter.
