John Boyega Is Happy To Be A Star Wars Fan Again

John Boyega

John Boyega has opened up about how he was attacked by a fan following the release of the trailer for his new series, The Mandalorian. In an interview with THR, Boyega revealed that he was targeted by a toxic superfan who accused him of making “white people sad” after he was cast as the lead in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The first Black lead in any Star Wars movie, Boyega received an outpouring of support from fellow actors like Lupita Nyong’o and Kelly Marie Tran after they saw what had happened. While it may have taken some time to get to this point, fans are excited to see what happens next for their favorite franchise now that there are more opportunities for diverse representation on screen!

That being said, there are still people out there who don’t think that Boyega should be playing lead roles in these films because they feel it’s unfair to other actors who don’t have his skin color…and then there are those who wouldn’t mind seeing him get into trouble with some Stormtroopers!

John Boyega Suffered From Online Attacks

When a fan of the “Star Wars” franchise attacked John Boyega on Twitter earlier this year, he was surprised but not shaken.

“I’m the only cast member who had their own unique experience of that franchise based on their race,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “So I’ve never felt like it’s been negative; I’ve always been very grateful for it.”

The comments came after another fan posted a racist message about Boyega to his Instagram account in January. The post has since been deleted and the user has apologized for posting it, but not before other fans came to his defense—including fellow Star Wars actors Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels.
