Pulsating Draw For Chelsea Against City

Chelsea

A thrilling 4-all draw against Chelsea saw Manchester City move a point ahead of the rest in the English Premier League this Sunday. Erling Haaland was in the thick of action with two goals. But former City boy Cole Palmer leveled the game from the spot in extra time.

City were the first off the mark when Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella fouled Haaland to concede a penalty that was confirmed only after a VAR check. The Norwegian calmly converted with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez flying in the wrong direction in the twenty-fourth minute.

Chelsea squared within minutes when another former City man Raheem Sterling slotted home after an error by Josko Gvardiol in defense. Reece James raced through to cross for Sterling to score 13 minutes later. Chelsea’s lead did not last long as defender Manuel Akanji pushed forward to head the equalizer in the injury time of the first half.

The Game Swung Both Ways Before Chelsea Finally Equalized In Injury Time

But City were ahead when Haaland scored the second within a minute into the second half. This was his 13th league goal. But the game swung both ends and the home side equalized in the 67th minute through Nicolas Jackson.

Rodri’s shot in the 86th minute deflected off Silva and put the champs ahead. But City’s hopes of coming away with three points were rudely shaken when Dias tripped Armando Broja in the box. It was left to City academy player Palmer to hold his nerves and score. He kept his cool to blast home against his previous club.

Palmer said scoring against the club where he has spent 15 years felt strange. Rodri said Chelsea were exhausted after the game. He said though the team had risen to the occasion, the team had to stop more to stop conceding so many goals. Chelsea are in 10th place after this draw with 16 points. City are at the top with 28 points after 12 games.
