Texas Elementary School Shooting Leaves 19 Children Dead

Gun Safety Package

According to official reports, nineteen children were shot dead after a gunman fired at a Texas elementary school last Tuesday. The mass shooting does come just two weeks after a man shot and killed 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo- where he targeted the Black community predominantly.

This tragedy has horrified the nation- while sparking outrage in Congress and other legislative bodies- as to how the nation would not be able to hide behind traditional excuses in the face of such an unmitigated disaster. The school shooting took place at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde- which is around 85 miles west of San Antonio.

Texas School Shooting Shocks and Horrifies Nation

The Republican Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, stated that the suspect was an 18-year-old man who used to reside in Uvalde. Apparently, he had been killed in a skirmish with the officers who responded to the scene. The suspect has since then been identified as Salvador Ramos- as reported by the state police.

The Department of Public Safety in the state recently informed CNN that the shooter had also crashed his car near the school, and got inside the school armed and wearing a bulletproof vest. Although the police officers of the school district were able to engage him, he did pass by classrooms where he fired his weapon.

The gunman from Texas had also shot his grandmother before he started driving toward the school with a couple of rifles. As mentioned in reports, he had purchased those guns on his birthday. Sen. Roland Guiterrez, one of the Democrat Senators of the state, informed that around three adults were also hospitalized in the attack and in a pretty serious condition.

On the day of the shooting, the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District in Texas mentioned that they had an active shooter at the Elementary School and there was law enforcement on the site. The Facebook post had also warned parents and others from entering the campus at that time.
