The Wisconsin GOP Is Considering Measures To Undermine The EC And The Liberal SC Majority

Wisconsin GOP

Following a run of defeats in closely contested statewide elections, Wisconsin Republicans are moving to undermine the state’s impartial elections director and the larger part of the newly elected liberal on the Supreme Court of the state. They have angered the state administration of the most significant swing states in the country for years with their activities, which raise concerns regarding the ways the election next year will be conducted and who would establish the rules.

Canon, a professor of political science at the UWM, declared that “this is obviously uncharted territory.” Republicans in the Senate are seeking to remove Meagan Wolfe, the head of the neutral WEC, who is still the subject of unfounded rumors concerning the election of 2020, now that they have a new supermajority.

Wisconsin GOP Debating On A Historic Moment Of Power Play

Republicans, according to Democrats, lack the authority to fire Wolfe. Their conflict may be heard in courts, where the Wisconsin GOP is debating a historic power grabbing and further party conflicts are building.

After 15 years of conservative control, liberals gained a 4-2 preponderance on the Wisconsin GOP with the election of liberal Justice Janet Protasiewicz. However, only a few months after her election, Robin Vos, Assembly Speaker, and other powerful Republicans have raised the possibility of having Protasiewicz impeached. This action has only ever been taken once in Wisconsin’s history, in the Assembly’s decision to impeach a judge of the state who had been charged with corruption but had since been cleared by the Wisconsin GOP.

Devin LeMahieu, the Republican majority leader in the Wisconsin Senate, has stated that the chamber will not contemplate moving on Protasiewicz, which further complicates the matter. Democratic Governor Tony Evers would pick the justice’s replacement if the Assembly elects to impeach her and the state Senate finds her guilty and removes her from her office.
