According To An Exit Poll, Trump’s Backing GOP Voters Most Likely Helped Him Win The Senate Ohio Primary

Ohio Primary

According to the findings of the media’s exit survey conducted in the state on Tuesday, businessman Bernie Moreno, the front-runner for the GOP Senate nomination in the Ohio primary, may have benefited from the state’s Republican voters’ widespread support for Donald Trump. More than seven out of ten Republican primary voters felt that it was at least somewhat necessary for the next Ohio Primary senator to back the presumed GOP presidential nominee. According to the exit poll, that segment overwhelmingly supported the candidate endorsed by Trump, voting for Moreno with almost 60% of the vote.

Ohio Primary Third Candidate Lags Behind As Others Secure Positions

On the other hand, about two-thirds of those who disapproved of Trump’s allegiance supported state senator Matt Dolan, the only one of the three Republican contenders in the contest who had not publicly embraced the outgoing president. Among both voter categories, Ohio Primary Secretary of State Frank LaRose, the third candidate, lagged behind his competitors. The first direct test of Trump’s ability to endorse a rival in a closely contested Senate election this year took place on Tuesday. Next up, Moreno faces Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown in a contest that might tip the scales in favor of Moreno.

Dolan defeated Moreno by a slim margin among those who stated they had made up their minds earlier in 2024 or at some point last year, but Moreno prevailed among those who stated they had chosen their Senate vote within the penultimate week of the campaign.
