Abortion services resume as Texas loosens restrictions on elective medical procedures

Texas resumed abortion services on Wednesday after an order issued by Republican governor Gregg Abbot, last week, permitting the restart of all non-essential medical services which were banned since last month due to Coronavirus pandemic.

The Texas Tribune reported that the abortion providers who challenged the ban in the court said that they now meet all the new standards as per the new order. Reportedly, the claim was not turned down in the filing by the state.

Last week, when the governor was asked if abortion services could reopen under the new norms, he said that it is for the court to decide.
