Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris created history on July 12 to get the most number of tie-breaking votes. VP Kamala Harris becomes the second Vice President to create such a record in the US Senate, while John C. Calhoun, who had served as the Vice President of the United States from 1825 to 1832, was the first to do so. This historic tie-breaker of Kamala Harris has boosted Kalpana Kotagal’s nomination to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission of the United States.

After the record-breaking tie-breaker, Vice President Harris met journalists calling the tie-breaker a moment and that she thinks that there is so much yet to be done by the administration. She further stated that she was advised by her mother that she might become the first person to do things, however, she will be certain that there will be successors in similar feats. According to vice presidential historian Joel K. Goldstein, this tie-breaking record of Vice President Harris reveals much of the present political atmosphere, which is highly polarized.
