Republican Presidential Candidate Tim Scott Drops Out Of 2024 Bid

Tim Scott

In an abrupt announcement, Republican presidential candidate for 2024, Tim Scott announced that he was suspending his campaign. The Senator of South Carolina said in an interview with Fox News on Sunday that he will go back to Iowa, but not as a presidential candidate. He clarified that he was suspending his campaign immediately.

Many of Tim Scott’s donors, aides, and supporters were stunned at the news which came as a surprise. His campaign staff said that they had received no prior warnings at the sudden announcement he made on ‘Sunday Night in America’ with Trey Gowdy.

His announcement comes even as Tim Scott struggled in the polls and days after the 3rd GOP primary debate where he failed to make any breakthrough. Nathan Brand, his campaign spokesperson, confirmed the news of Tim Scott stepping down. Gowdy later said that even he was blindsided by the announcement.

Tim Scott Had Slipped Into The Fourth Position In The GOP Primary Field

Tim Scott came into the primary field with more cash than the other candidates in the fray. But he struggled to make a dent in a field totally dominated by Donald Trump. He was fourth in the fray with 7% support. He is the only Black Republican in the Senate and had announced his intention in May to run for the top job.

Tim Scott said that voters in America had clearly indicated that it was not the right time for him to run for president. Staffers said that they learned about his abrupt decision on television. Scott even participated in a fundraising campaign over emails shortly before he made his announcement.

The campaign mentioned that it was the last chance to support Scott in reaching his target for the campaign. It exhorted supporters to chip in and help the senator win. Tim Scott’s announcement comes even as former Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, eased into second place in the primary polls.
