At least three senior officials from the National Security Council have been dismissed, with additional firings anticipated, according to two U.S. officials who spoke to CBS News under the condition of anonymity.
The dismissals occurred following a visit from conservative figure Laura Loomer to the Oval Office on Wednesday, where she presented President Trump with opposition research targeting NSC staffers whom she believes are neoconservatives or insufficiently loyal to him, according to one source.
The officials who were let go include Brian Walsh, senior director for intelligence; Thomas Boodry, senior director for legislative affairs; and David Feith, another senior director.
CBS News has reached out to Walsh, Feith, and Boodry for their responses.
One source indicated that Loomer is also focusing on Alex Wong, deputy to National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. On X last week, Loomer raised questions about the loyalty of Wong and his spouse, who is employed by the Department of Justice.
NSC spokesperson Brian Hughes did not provide any comments. “NSC does not comment on personnel matters,” Hughes communicated to CBS News.
Waltz has faced scrutiny following his apparent unintentional inclusion of Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg in a Signal chat regarding attack plans in Yemen.
