Social media can be a terrible place, especially during such times when the COVID-19 virus is wreaking havoc all over the world. Facebook has announced on Thursday that it is going to warn users when they like, react or comment on any fake or harmful COVID-19 posts. Facebook will also actively try to remove misinformation. The organization is playing its part to stop misinformation.

In a blog, Facebook has announced that the feature will be rolled out soon.

The Vice President of Facebook, Guy Rosen, has mentioned: “These messages will connect people to COVID-19 myths debunked by the World Health Organization including ones we’ve removed from our platform for leading to imminent physical harm.”

Facebook began removing any misinformation about the pandemic since January when WHO declared the virus to be a global health emergency. Many thousands of posts have been removed which have the potential to cause physical harm to people – like drinking of bleach to eradicate COVID-19 from your body.

Facebook is trying to roll out this feature to help people get connected with the truth about the virus.

Previously, Facebook has been criticized for mishandling sensitive information about health and so, Facebook is trying its best with this pandemic. It has joined with several partners who would fact-check articles and limit any spread of misinformation. Plus, pop-ups will link any information with relevant sites or health resources so that the audience can get the right information.
