Houseparty is a video chat and online gaming application that allows people to video call each other, play games and have fun. It became famous as everyone is staying home and bored so people have fun there.  The owner of Houseparty is offering $1M reward evidence the company was the victim of a commercial smear campaign.

Some people claimed that after downloading the application, their Netflix and Spotify accounts got hacked.

However, the company stated that there is “no evidence” to trust those claims.

According to Apptopia, more than 130,000 people downloaded the app in a week in mid-February and 2 million people a week in the middle of March.

Online gaming company ‘Epic Games’, which also made Fortnite, bought Houseparty from its former owner in 2019.

Epic Games promised to pay the person who gives evidence of hacking as they believe that this is all just rumors and Houseparty is a victim of a smear attack.

How it all started

On Monday the company began fighting rumours on social media that the video chat app was the reason other apps were being hacked.

The company started fighting rumors on Monday on Social Media Platforms, as many people on twitter shared screenshots that show they got hacked on applications like Netflix and Spotify and even bank accounts.

Presentational white space

Houseparty doesn’t have access to these applications, it just asks you about contacts, Facebook, and Snapchat connections.

Those tweets were calling people to delete their Houseparty accounts and to delete the application from their phones.

The company declared a statement that denies those rumors.

“We’ve found no evidence to suggest a link between Houseparty and the compromises of other unrelated accounts,” a spokesperson for Epic Games said.

“As a general rule, we suggest all users choose strong passwords when creating online accounts on any platform.”

Houseparty risks

Houseparty, which permits clients to have bunch video chats and mess around for all intents and purposes with companions, can’t its hazard, in any case.

Protection and child-rearing specialists have cautioned about “gate crashers” entering a discussion on the application.

If a chat is left “unlocked” any client can enter it excluded – or “gate crash” – as long as they are associated with somebody in the chat.

That has prompted reports of wrong conduct and even pornographic pictures being appeared to accidental clients.
