Guard Isaiah Thomas, a two-time All-Star, has agreed to a 10-day deal with the Phoenix Suns. Although Thomas, 35, hasn’t participated in an NBA game since 2022, he recently averaged 32.5 points in four games with the NBA G League’s Salt Lake City Stars. They made the deal official on Wednesday, and are looking for some offensive punch to come off the bench as they prepare for the postseason. In 46 games during the 2014–15 campaign, Thomas averaged 15.2 points for the Suns.

Throughout his 550 career games with the Kings, Suns, Celtics, Cavaliers, Lakers, Nuggets, Wizards, Pelicans, Mavericks, and Hornets, Thomas has averaged 17.7 points in scoring.

Suns Coach Frank Vogel To Make Thomas Play Only In Emergency

Thomas said on Wednesday morning, hours before he was supposed to be available for the  game against the Philadelphia 76ers at the Footprint Centre, “Ten years went by so fast, it doesn’t even look like the same city.”

In his most recent NBA season (2021–22), Thomas, 35, averaged 8.4 points per game while shooting 40% from the floor while on consecutive 10-day contracts with the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and Charlotte Hornets. Thomas most recently joined the NBA G-League’s Salt Lake City Stars in March, when he averaged 32.5 points and 5.3 assists per game in addition to shooting 44% on his 14 3-point attempts a game, including a 34-point outburst on Saturday. Although Thomas was supposed to make his debut against the 76ers on Wednesday night, coach Frank Vogel appeared to indicate that Thomas would only play in an emergency.
