Arsenal head of soccer Raul Sanllehi has denied any wrongdoing in his club’s pursuit of Mikel Arteta after reports surfaced that Manchester City were angry over a lack of an official strategy.
Former Gunners captain Arteta was introduced as Arsenal’s boss on Friday, leaving Man City, at which he’d served Pep Guardiola’s backroom team for three and a half seasons.
The 37-year old returns to London to locate Arsenal struggling mid-table, having suffered a difficult start to the year beneath Unai Emery, who had been sacked in the end of the month.
Reports implied City were unhappy with the character of Arteta’s move to Arsenal, even though Guardiola along with the team wanted the departing coach nicely.
Photographs appeared of Arteta meeting with Arsenal officials before the change has been finished, but Sanllehi considers the Gunners were”very respectful” in their pursuit of the Spaniard.
“In relation to the images, we did not believe it had been such a fantastic bargain,” Sanllehi explained.
“We’ve been explaining openly we’re in a process of searching for a head coach, and we’ve been visiting many and at the homes of several. It only occurred this time there was a photo for any reason.
“I don’t know whether it was a neighbor or somebody following – I don’t understand and I don’t care.
“In relation to Man City and granted the tight connection between Mikel and Pep, we’ve been quite cautious, exceptionally clear and very respectful.”
Emery came from Paris Saint-Germain upon Arsene Wenger’s passing after the 2017-18 year, where stage Arteta was in the running for the function.
But regardless of how Emery’s tenure panned out, Sanllehi remains content Arsenal produced the best choice they could in the moment, while backing Arteta as the perfect candidate for your club’s future.
