David Benavidez Stops Demetrius Andrade In 6 Rounds

David Benavidez

David Benavidez turned up the heat against Demetrius Andrade to retain the interim super middleweight title. Andrade’s corner threw in the towel after the 6th round of Saturday night. It was slated as a fight of varied styles. It was also believed that it would go the whole distance as unbeaten David Benavidez had been ruthlessly clinical. The 168-pound American has a 28-0 record, with not one fight lasting the distance.

David Benavides, dubbed El Monstruo, lived up to his nickname and also his billing as arguably the most destructive offensive fighter as he defended his interim World Boxing Council Super Middleweight title. He blitzed former 2-division champ Demetrius Andrade with a stoppage at the end of the 6th round. The ending came as Andrade’s trainer would not allow his charge to start the 7th round after David Benavidez pounded and bloodied the southpaw in what is to date the signature performance of his career.

David Benavidez: ‘Just Give Me The Fight We All Want To See’

The fight against Andrade was equally mismatched, and his corner threw in the towel after 6 rounds. It was the first defeat in his 33-fight professional boxing career. David Benavides is being hailed as the greatest super middleweight in the world after Alvarez. Immediately following his win over Demetrius Andrade, David Benavidez demanded a fight against Alvarez. This fight would serve to bring together the super middleweight category. A huge gathering of around ten thousand fans roared in approval.

David Benavidez asserted that after this win he has solidified himself as a dominant performer. He said that people should get what they are eagerly waiting to see – Benavidez taking on Alvarez. He was speaking at the post-fight interview which was well attended by enthusiastic fans and an all-attentive press. Andrade conceded that David Benavides was the ‘bigger man’ tonight and said that he was a hell of a fighter.
