Hurricanes Feel Inspired by Bruins Following Their Loss in Eastern First Round Series

Eastern First Round Series

Bruins managed to defeat Hurricanes in Game 5 of the Eastern First Round series. It was a series of tight matches where most of the time the teams were separated by one goal until the final minutes.

Coach Rod Brind’Amour has reinforced the notion that the team is extremely motivated to continue their training and breakthrough the elite lines of the ice-hockey teams. He said that the team “knows how to win,” and that ‘they’ve been there.” It is worth noting that the Hurricanes did go through some tough times during earlier that has really made them the team they are right now.

Although The Bruins managed to eliminate the Hurricanes on Wednesday winning 2-1 in Game 5 of the best-of-7 Eastern First Round Series at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, the team clearly looks like they are motivated by this defeat instead of discouraged. The series was an uphill battle for them and the team managed to tie or lose by one decisive goal during the last minutes of the game. This shows good progress on Hurricanes’ side as the last season these very teams faced off between each other and the difference was much more visible at that time with the games ending with a combined score of 17-5.

Brind’Amour also stated that he believes the teams played on practically the same level. This is number 5 seed losing to number 4th in the East. In an interview, he stated that

“I’m really proud of this team. They do it right and we responded, which was the best thing. We walk out of here, I think, with our heads high with the effort we put out there, especially tonight.”

Although this feels like a reassuring talk from the coach since at the end of the Game 4 where Hurricanes let through 4 third period goals and lost 4-3 he was quite vocal about that game stating that it was “disturbing” to say the least.

These game series were unnerving for lots of people. It is understandable that the stress may choke a team. There was an unseen support for the team though. A betting website, PlayAmo has reported that there was a 30% surge in this particular series for the bets coming in on the side of Hurricanes. This just reinforces the fact that people also believe in their success and that there definitely is potential for improvement.

One way or another, the improvement of Hurricanes’ part is visible to everyone. It is worth mentioning that the experience difference between the Bruins and Hurricanes is hard to miss. Bruins has a core team like Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Krejci and Zdeno Chara against Sebastian Aho, Jaccob Slavin, Dougie Hamilton, and Andrei Svechnikov from the side of the Hurricanes. While both sides made a really good presentation the Bruins were obviously on top of their game much more consistently than the Hurricanes.  What is important is that the latter is just inexperienced in comparison to the former. The Bruins have already been to the finals of Stanley Cup as many as three times since 2011 including the previous season where they lost in Game 7 to the St. Louis Blues. The Hurricanes have been lagging behind for a while now their last playoff being in 2009.

Brind’Amour has stated it a couple of times that The Bruins is the team that knows how to win and this experience is something Hurricanes will definitely learn from them. Carolina Hurricanes are more or less full of younger players who have huge aspirations and that motivation may make the team into a champion. We will have to wait and see.
